Eight months later we get a shocking $6,400 bill from the government that we were required to pay in 3 months or get sent to collections. We obviously were not prepared to receive such an incredible bill and called Vanguard to see what went wrong. They were NOT helpful and the man we spoke to said we were stuck with the bill and in no way took any accountability for the mistake they made. When asked about why they didn't check the correct payoff amounts, he simply stated that was the a secretary's job and she was no longer with them.

We have been dealing with the government which has been a disaster and could have easily been avoided if Vanguard Title had correctly done the job they were paid to do. A business that makes a mistake, especially a huge one like this, should take accountability and work to correct their mistake with their customers.

Our home was sold and our closing took place at Vanguard Title Insurance Agency in St. George Utah. We paid them the title fees to have all liens checked on our home and ensure the appropriate payoff amounts we provided so that our home was correctly sold and paid off completely at the time of closing. In the paperwork, it clearly stated that there was a separate $6,400 second mortgage on our home to HUD. Vanguard called to get the payoff amount, but did not ensure that the $6,400 was included in the payoff amount NOR did they tell us they did NOT check at time of closing. So we were left to assume that Vanguard completed the job we paid for and that all of our debts were paid off with the sale of our home like they should be.
