I love Indian food! Coming from a big city with over 4million people, you can imagine that there are a countless number of Indian restaurants to choose from. While some of those are amazing, none of them compare to Bombay Cafe. This is a must stop on my travels! I love their chicken korma and coconut curry. Images: Chicken Korma and garlic bread.

the occasional flies, relatively high prices ($2.50 for a single piece of naan) would not be enough to make me leave such review. People have issues, they need to make a living, accidents happen, I understand. Neither would I rate them based on the fact that some (or most) of the dishes are a far cry from authentic. If it tastes good and makes me want to come back, who cares?

We are Indian food lovers and we go to Indian restaurants every Saturday. Now we are staying in St George, UT and we decided to try the Bombay Cafe which someone recommended. I've never ever tasted so disgusting food in my life! Everything was so greasy and flavorless! The naan was store bought and warmed up. If this was my first time trying Indian food I would never have it again! Such a horrible experience at a very high price! Worst money spent ever! Don't waste your money on this place, find something better instead!

even if a place has issues. I rather just move on and not come back.

I don't easily bring myself to leave a low or negative review

Really disappointed. I bring tours through town and brought my group to try Bombay Cafe. The food was one-note, the atmosphere was bland, they upcharge for bread (they don't ask you if you want it, they just ask what flavor like it's included then charge $2 for a store bought piece of naan, which unfortunately was the best part of the meal) and they seemed to have taken liberties with my credit card. My receipt says $70.68, actual credit card charge was $99.92. I tipped what I'd consider a very generous 15% because they bring the food out and that's about it. (You get your own water, seat yourself, etc.) I understand automatic gratuities for a party of six, but to tip 15% and then get blasted with an additional $20 (28% involuntary gratuity PLUS a 15% tip?!? I'm sorry but your restaurant is dirty, the service was terrible, and bringing food to a table and telling us to go outside to find a restroom does NOT merit a 43% tip!) Not trustworthy. Not good. I will never bring my tours back.

On the other hand, if mine is the only such complaint, and this is an isolated incident, my review will fade over time as it should.

I am also willing to give a place a second chance.

when the food makes my wife and I sick as much as it did today, I feel it is my responsibility to let others know what may await them. (I will omit the details. Let's just say it was bad. Really bad.)

I was there about two weeks ago also and no problems. Perhaps this was a one-time incident. Maybe they just bought something bad and it's not even their fault. (though when you run a food place I imagine it's kind of your responsibility to inspect/assure the quality of the ingredients) In the end, I really wish they would just fix whatever went wrong. Unfortunately for me, I will never find out about that because I now know of a third person who also got sick from their food.

However,

Getting food poisoned is not okay!

The attitude of the people working there, general lack of cleanliness,

So what can you expect if you visit?

The quality was always a bit of hit and miss.

Great food from a small restaraunt. Because this place is so small, the owner is there cooking and serving the food. He has a passion for this and it shows in the quality of food. I've tried several Indian food restaurants before and this is by far the best. A moderately priced place to eat but worth it. I'd say it's about 10 to 16 dollars a person depending upon what you order.

Oh... and did I mention the flaming runs that my entire tour group had? I'm sorry, but to have a poor restaurant experience, get raked over the coals on the gratuity, and then get mild food poisoning... I had to let others know.

Last but not least, if you are reading this and have a similar experience don't bite your tongue.

My favorite dish there is (oh, WAS) the Chicken Vindaloo which brought me back to this place a few times even before they moved to the new place (Behind Freddy's). One thing I loved about this place was they didn't hold back on spices. I know spicy is relative, but for me, their extra spicy was right at the max I am willing to ingest. I ate there before and didn't get sick even when I ordered extra spicy. At times, I may have regretted it afterward, but that's on me. (would give them good review for that) Rest assured, I can tell the difference between the aftermath of too spicy vs food poisoning.
